LAX ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY NIGHTTIME RUNWAY CLOSURES

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will temporarily close its north inboard runway 24L/6R for 54.5 hours beginning Saturday at 12:01 a.m. and continuing to Monday, November 23, at 6:30 a.m. for Runway Safety Area (RSA) improvements. In addition, during the last 6.5 hours of this closure, LAX will also close the north outboard runway 24R/6L.

RSA improvements are mandated by the U.S. Congress and are intended to provide an extra margin of safety and arriving and departing aircraft.

Persons living near LAX notice a change in aircraft flight activity and noise during these temporary runway closures.  When the north inboard runway (24L/6R) closes this weekend, more aircraft are expected to use the north outboard runway (24R/6L) for departure and arrival operations.

In addition, and particularly when both north complex runways are closed, some aircraft operations are expected to shift from the north to the south complex.

LAX will continue to conduct normal Over-Ocean Operations (OOO) between midnight and 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, but will deviate from OOO Monday when both north runways will be temporarily closed.
