TRAFFIC ADVISORY NEAR LAX FOR JUNE 19-21, 2015 – 
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GAS PIPELINE INSTALLATION NEAR LAX TO CLOSE EASTBOUND CENTURY BOULEVARD BETWEEN AIRPORT AND AVIATION BOULEVARDS FOR 36 HOURS BEGINNING FRIDAY, JUNE 19 AT 11 PM TO SUNDAY, JUNE 21 AT 6 AM
LAX Passengers and Motorists Should Allow Extra Time for Possible Traffic Congestion

             Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials are reminding motorists that replacement of a natural gas pipeline by the Southern California Gas Company will temporarily close eastbound Century Boulevard for one-half mile between Airport and Aviation boulevards beginning TONIGHT, Friday, June 19 at 11 p.m. through Sunday, June 21 at 6 a.m.  During this 36-hour period, all southbound lanes of Aviation Boulevard from the intersection with eastbound Century Boulevard also will be closed.  Westbound Century Boulevard heading to LAX will remain open.  LAX passengers and motorists are advised to allow extra time for possible traffic congestion.  Delays leaving the airport are expected during LAX’s busy daily travel periods from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

            SoCalGas pipeline construction work will occur at the intersection of all eastbound lanes of Century Boulevard with the southbound lanes of Aviation Boulevard.             

A traffic detour plan is in place for eastbound Century Boulevard traffic. Leaving LAX, motorists will be directed to turn north (left) onto Airport Boulevard, east (right) onto Arbor Vita Street, south (right) onto La Cienega Boulevard, and then east (right) or west (left) onto Century Boulevard.

City of Los Angeles traffic officers will be on site to help manage expected traffic congestion.  Access to emergency responders will be maintained.  Pedestrians will be rerouted to a safe area around the construction zone.

According to SoCalGas, people passing by the work site may see an excavated section of pipeline with construction equipment and traffic control signage, as well as trucks and other vehicles.  The public may also hear some work-related noise and notice an occasional natural gas odor.
