Van Nuys Airport’s Recognizes Twenty-Six Aviation Companies for Flying Friendly
VAN NUYS, CA – May 26, 2016 – Twenty-six general aviation companies received Friendly Flyer Awards for their stellar compliance with Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) Fly Friendly Program for calendar year 2015. The winners were honored for their outstanding achievement at VNY by adhering to all established noise abatement regulations and achieving 99% or greater compliance with all voluntary noise abatement programs.
“We congratulate each of our award recipients for their continued efforts to be responsible neighbors,” said Cynthia Guidry, Deputy Executive Director of Planning and Development at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). Airport Director, Jess Romo added “These awards prove that by working in close collaboration with our operators, we are able to make meaningful enhancements to our neighborhood’s quality of life.”
The voluntary Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Program for jet aircraft was established in 1994 to address the community’s concerns regarding jet aircraft noise in neighboring areas. LAWA created the annual "Friendly Flyer" award in 2012 to acknowledge those jet operators who complied with all noise abatement policies and procedures and achieved the highest level of success in adhering to the voluntary No Early Turn and Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Programs.
The award winners were determined using the following criteria:
· At least 60 southbound jet departures during CY 2014
· No violations of the following:
o Noise Abatement and Curfew Regulation
o Non-Additional Rule
o Noisier Jet Phase Out
· 99% or greater compliance with the No Early Turn and the Quiet Jet Departure Programs.
