LABOR DEMONSTRATION AT LAX -- PASSENGERS ADVISED TO PLAN AHEAD, EXPECT DELAYS

         (Los Angeles, California – November 28, 2016)  Passengers, visitors and workers traveling to/from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) between 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, are advised to plan ahead and expect traffic congestion because of a scheduled labor demonstration by Service Employees International Union 721, Janitors for Justice, and Fight for 15, in support of a nation-wide day of protest.

While all entrances into the LAX Central Terminal Area will remain open, there could be traffic delays due to possible intermittent closures of intersections inside the Central Terminal Area on the Lower/Arrivals Level.  Although flight operations at LAX are expected to be normal, passengers should check with their airlines on flight status before coming to the airport, and be in their airline terminals two hours before boarding time for a domestic flight and three hours before boarding time for an international flight.

Motorists are advised to avoid the following areas east of LAX during the five-hour period:

• Between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., 98^th Street between Sepulveda and Airport boulevards, where demonstrators will unload from buses
• Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., one block of Airport Boulevard will be fully closed between Century Boulevard and 98th Street to accommodate a post-demonstration rally

Due to the planned demonstration, permitted by the Los Angeles Police Commission, passengers driving to LAX during this period are advised to allow extra time.

Media Parking Locations

Media outlets planning to cover the labor demonstration are reminded to follow established LAX media parking policies and park in pre-designated locations.  Broadcast-equipped media vehicles displaying valid LAX Media Parking Permits ONLY may park:

• Upper/Departures Level curbside Terminals 1 and 2 -- vehicles must be attended at all times
• Upper/Departures Level curbside between Terminal 3 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal -- vehicles must be attended at all times
• Upper/Departures Level curbside at the far east end of Terminal 8 east of the construction barricade – vehicles may be left unattended as long as driver notifies Airport Police Watch Commander at (424) 646-6100 AND leaves a phone number next to the permit where the driver may be reached in case of an emergency.
• Lower/Arrivals Level Parking Lot 3 – vehicles may be left unattended
• Special one-time-use-only overflow parking for media vans will be available in the Employees Parking Lot of the LAWA Administration Building.  Entrance to this lot is off Center Way on the Lower/Arrivals Level between the airport’s Administration Building and Terminals 7/8, just east of Parking Structure 7.
• ALL other media may park in any parking structure.  Parking tickets may be validated in the Administration Building lobby from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., or in the LAX Guest Experience Office on the ground level of the LAX Theme Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A media staging area for those outlets planning to cover the post-demonstration rally on Airport Boulevard has been identified between Century Boulevard and 98^th Street.  Media are advised to begin parking at 10 a.m.  Per the Los Angeles Police Department, in the event of an unlawful assembly declaration, and in accordance with the CRESPO settlement, the Incident Commander will avoid moving crowds into areas designated as media staging.  In the event of an unlawful assembly declaration during a march, additional media area(s), outside of the impacted area, may be designated by the Incident Commander.  To the extent reasonably possible, efforts will be made to ensure that the designated media area(s) do not become part of any impacted area.
