BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS APPROVES ADVERTISEMENT OF REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR PRELIMINARY WORK ON LANDSIDE ACCESS MODERNIZATION PROGRAM

(Los Angeles, California – November 3, 2016)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners voted unanimously today to allow the advertisement of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for projects to be done in support of and in preparation for the $5.5-billion Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The RFP is intended to solicit qualified firms to submit proposals to provide comprehensive engineering, design, demolition, pre- construction, and construction services for the LAMP Utilities and Enabling Project.

LAMP is designed to relieve traffic congestion within the LAX Central Terminal Area (CTA) and on surrounding streets; improve the travel experience for passengers; provide connection to the regional Metro light-rail system at the proposed Airport Metro Connector Transit station at 96th Street/Aviation Boulevard; reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality for communities adjacent to LAX; and transform LAX into a modern, state-of-the-art airport servicing passengers, employees and neighbors.

The LAMP Utilities and Enabling Project will mitigate schedule uncertainty for delivery of LAMP projects by:

• Ensuring that key sites are cleared and prepared for the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain teams to begin work on time.
• Helping to minimize change orders from APM contractors by allowing them to focus on their primary scope and maintain construction schedules with minimal disruption.
• Providing flexibility and agility to mitigate negative impacts on traffic and parking created by the LAMP, critical to protecting the guest experience at LAX.

Construction will not commence until final environmental approval is obtained.  The RFP is slated to be posted on the Los Angeles Business Assistance Virtual Network (LABAVN) next week.
