AUTHORITIES RESPOND TO THREE REPORTS OF SUSPICIOUS BAGS

Airport police and other agencies responded to three separate suspicious bag incidents this morning at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX):

1.        At 8:50 a.m., a Transportation Security Administration K-9 alerted to a bag in the bag room at Terminal 6. Employees were evacuated from the bag room as well as the ramps at Gates 61, 63, and 65. Passengers were briefly moved east, away from the Security Screening Check Point, and some of them went out to the sidewalk at Terminal 6. There was no other impact inside of the terminal, and no evacuation of passengers. The bag was checked by a Los Angeles Police Department Bomb Detection Unit, was negative for explosives, and the incident was closed at 9:21 a.m.

2.        There was a report of an unattended bag on the curbside at Terminal 7 at 8:41 a.m. It was later elevated to a suspicious bag, the Terminal 7 ticketing area was briefly evacuated, and security screening was briefly stopped. The LAPD Bomb Detection Unit checked the bag and it was negative, and the incident was closed at 10:32 a.m.

3.        An airport employee reported an unattended bag outside the men’s restroom near Gate 53 in Terminal 5 at 9:36 a.m. The LAPD Bomb Detection Unit responded to the scene, checked the bag, which was negative for explosives, and the incident was closed at 11:00 a.m.
