– TRAFFIC ADVISORY –
OVERNIGHT RESTRICTIONS FOR SIDEWALK AND DROP-OFF LANE AT TERMINAL 1, TWO RAMPS NEAR CENTRAL TERMINAL AREA; CENTURY BOULEVARD CLOSURES CONCLUDE

(Los Angeles, California – August 26, 2016) A section of the sidewalk and drop-off lane in front of Southwest Airlines Terminal 1 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will be closed for four nights, starting on Sunday, August 28, potentially impacting traffic entering the Central Terminal Area on the Upper/Departures Level.

The work to install a poly overlay on the roadway will close 480 feet of the sidewalk and drop-off lane at the western end of Terminal 1 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Wednesday, August 31. Passengers accessing Terminal 1 from the Upper/Departures Level will be rerouted to Terminal 2, where they can use escalators, elevators or stairs to reach the Lower/Arrivals Level and then return to Terminal 1 from there.  Motorists may find it easier to drop off passengers in front of Terminal 1 on the Lower/Arrivals Level during this time.

The detour for pedestrians will be posted nightly, as will signs indicating that employee shuttles can be accessed on the Lower/Arrivals Level.

There will also be overnight closures, from midnight to 6 a.m., starting early Monday, August 29, through Friday, September 2, for the ramps from eastbound Century Boulevard to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard and from southbound Sepulveda Boulevard to eastbound Century Boulevard. The closures are for work on the LAX Gateway Pylons (see attached bulletin).

Motorists who want to go north on Sepulveda Boulevard during these hours are advised to make a U-turn at Avion Drive.  Traffic control will be in place.

Meanwhile, closures of Century Boulevard associated with Metro’s work to remove the temporary “falsework” that had supported a Crenshaw/LAX Project bridge during its initial construction, concluded earlier this week as crews also installed supporting material for the construction of the Aviation/Century Metro Station above the roadway.

The closures had impacted one direction of travel on Century Boulevard between Aviation Boulevard and Bellanca Avenue with overnight closures each weeknight for most of the past three weeks. A similar round of closures occurred in July 2015, and additional closures are expected to be necessary in about six months, according to officials with the contractor, Walsh Shea Corridor Constructors.

The bridge is part of an 8.5-mile light-rail line that will connect the Green Line at Aviation Boulevard and Imperial Highway to the Expo Line at the Expo/Crenshaw Station.  Metro anticipates completion of the new line at the end of 2019, and it is expected to link up with the proposed LAX Automated People Mover at a proposed station at 96th Street and Aviation Boulevard by 2023.

CLOSED: Northbound and Southbound Sepulveda Access
