OVERNIGHT CENTURY BOULEVARD CLOSURES AT AVIATION BOULEVARD WILL RESUME ON MONDAY FOR CRENSHAW/LAX METRO RAIL PROJECT
(Los Angeles, California – August 19, 2016) As part of its month-long project to remove the temporary “falsework” that had supported the Crenshaw/LAX Project bridge over Century Boulevard during its initial construction, Metro will resume overnight closures of Century Boulevard at Aviation Boulevard on Monday, August 22. There will be no closures August 19-21.
On Monday, August 22, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, Metro will close all westbound lanes ofCentury Boulevard between Aviation Boulevard and Bellanca Avenue, impacting traffic heading into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from Interstate 405. On Tuesday and Wednesday, August 23-24, all eastbound lanes of Century Boulevard between Bellanca Avenue and Aviation Boulevard, and the left-most westbound lane, will be closed overnight from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.
The closures will continue on Thursday and Friday, August 25-26, although the direction of travel that will be impacted has not yet been determined. Once that determination is made, Metro and its contractor, Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors -- as well as airport officials -- will inform the public.
All schedules are dependent upon weather conditions. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Metro will detour traffic around the closure. When westbound Century Boulevard is closed, automobiles will be diverted north on Aviation Boulevard, west on West Arbor Vitae Street, south on Airport Boulevard, then west on Century Boulevard. Trucks will be directed to turn north on La Cienega Boulevard, west on West Arbor Vitae Street, south on Airport Boulevard, and then west on Century Boulevard. During those weeknights when all eastbound Century Boulevard lanes are closed, all vehicles will be directed north on Airport Boulevard, east onto West Arbor Vitae Street before heading south on Aviation Boulevard to rejoin Century Boulevard. See detour maps below.

LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
