LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS ISSUES 2015 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT, UNVEILS WEBSITE TO PROVIDE BREAKDOWN ON EFFORTS TO REDUCE IMPACT ON ENVIRONMENT

(Los Angeles, California – July 22, 2016) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has a new way to share the story on its comprehensive efforts to improve LAWA’s environmental, economic and social performance.

Along with releasing its 2015 Sustainability Report this week, LAWA launched a website at http://www.laxsustainability.org/ that provides a visual breakdown of efforts to reduce its impacts on the environment from LAWA airports and other operations.  The site includes several graphics that reflect LAWA’s sustainability leadership in the aviation industry and its work toward reducing its environmental footprint.

The “Sustainability Elements” tab leads to 14 different topic areas where LAWA is working to integrate sustainable practices into various aspects of its operations, while the “Performance Summary” tab provides a snapshot of LAWA’s achievements in those areas.

Under the “Projects” tab, visitors to the website can find updates on completed, under- construction and proposed facilities where sustainability goals were incorporated as part of the construction.  Completed projects include the new Central Utility Plant and the New Tom Bradley International Terminal.  Projects under construction include the Midfield Satellite Concourse and West Aircraft Maintenance Area.  Information on important projects , including the LAX Northside Plan Update, the proposed LAX Landside Access Modernization Program, and the LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse can also be accessed through this page.

The “Resources” page includes links to Sustainability Reports going back to 2007.  It also offers a number of links to other LAWA websites and fact sheets.

“LAWA is working to reduce its environmental footprint at our airports through a number of initiatives, ranging from energy-efficient design requirements, construction and infrastructure upgrades, water conservation and water quality improvement projects, natural resource protection efforts, waste reduction and recycling, and numerous air quality emissions reduction policies and programs,” said LAWA Chief Executive Officer Deborah Flint.

“LAWA continues to benefit the surrounding communities with good jobs and economic vitality.  We take our corporate social responsibility seriously, and we are working to balance our increasing operations, economic growth, and robust construction program while delivering social benefits, improved passenger experience, and mitigating environmental impacts,” Flint added.

While LAWA began to document its sustainability efforts in 2007, the new website presents information on that work in a format friendly to a variety of audiences.

“This website was designed with our customers, tenants and communities in mind,” said Lisa Trifiletti, deputy executive director for LAWA’s Environmental Programs Group.  “The goal was simple -- create a site that informs our partners on how we’re incorporating sustainable practices into all aspects of our operations at LAWA.”

The website was designed by LAWA Environmental Programs Group employees Scott Tatro, Tamara McCrossen-Orr and Daniel Osztreicher, and the group’s Sustainability Unit with the assistance of LAWA’s Information Management and Technology Group.
