–TRAFFIC ADVISORY–
SEPULVEDA TUNNEL WORK MAY CAUSE NIGHTLY DELAYS NEAR LAX NEXT WEEK

(Los Angeles, California – March 10, 2017) The Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services has notified Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials that work to power wash walls in the Sepulveda Tunnel will close two of the three lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard for four nights later this month.

The work will start Monday, March 13, in the southbound lanes, leading away from LAX toward Interstate 105.  It will continue Tuesday, March 14 before shifting to the northbound lanes for the final two nights, potentially affecting motorists heading toward LAX.

Each night, two of the three lanes in the tunnel may close as early as 10 p.m., with all three lanes restored by 5 a.m. the following morning.  One lane will remain open for motorists.

Airport officials recommend departing travelers plan ahead and allow more time for possible detours.   On Monday and Tuesday nights, motorists are encouraged to use Century Boulevard as an alternative to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard when exiting the airport.  Motorists heading toward LAX from the south and east on Wednesday and Thursday nights can also use Century Boulevard to reach the Central Terminal Area.  Access to LAX is also available via the 96th Street bridge and from southbound Sepulveda Boulevard.

Updates on real-time traffic conditions in and around LAX will be available by following the Los Angeles Airport Police (@LAAirportPD) and LAX Airport (@flyLAXairport) on Twitter, as well as through the WAZE traffic app and at LAXisHappening.com

More information about the powering washing is available from the Bureau of Street Services at (800) 996-2489.
