MOTORISTS HEADED TO LAX REMINDED OF OVERNIGHT WORK ON I-405 NEXT WEEK
(Los Angeles, California – August 11, 2017) Motorists using southbound Interstate 405 to access Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) should budget some additional time if traveling overnight next week.
Los Angeles World Airports is reminding motorists that work on a Metro light rail bridge in the vicinity of Manchester Avenue will require full freeway closures overnight between this Monday, August 14, and Saturday morning, August 19.All southbound traffic will be directed off of Interstate 405 at the Manchester Avenue/Florence Avenue exit from midnight to 5 a.m., with lanes closing as early as 10 p.m., and full travel restored by 6 a.m. the following morning, except 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Detoured motorists will be directed to go straight on La Cieniga Boulevard after exiting the freeway. They will be able to re-enter the freeway at an on ramp near Olive Street; however, they will not be able to access the Century Boulevard off-ramp.Motorists heading to LAX may choose to remain on La Cieniga Boulevard for access to Century Boulevard. Those who re-enter the freeway can use Interstate 105 west and Sepulveda Boulevard to reach the airport.
Metro’s contractor Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructors (WSCC) has been working overnights since July 31 to remove the wood framing that was used to build an 800-foot-long bridge that crosses the 405 as well as Hyde Park Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard. The bridge will be part of the new Crenshaw/LAX Project that is expected to open in 2019.
LAX encourages passengers to arrive at their terminal two hour before boarding time for domestic flights and three hours before boarding time for international departures.

LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
