UTILITY LOCATION WORK FOR AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER STATIONS WILL AFFECT OVERNIGHT TRAFFIC ON CENTER WAY

(Los Angeles, California – July 5, 2017)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced today that overnight utility location work may cause brief delays for guests using Center Way – the exit route located on the Lower/Arrivals Level – at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) starting tonight and continuing for several weeks.  No work will take place in front of the terminals on World Way.

The work, which will take place nightly between midnight and 8 a.m., will require closure of up to two lanes at one time, with at least one travel lane remaining open.  When lanes adjacent to the parking structures are closed, some payment booths may be out of service that night, although at least three booths will be available at all times.

LAWA contactors will drill potholes for exploration of underground utility locations during the planning stages for three Automated People Mover (APM) stations that are proposed for construction inside the Central Terminal Area (CTA).  The lanes will be restored by 8 a.m. each day.  The work will begin near Parking Structure 3 tonight, and continue east down Center Way.

The APM is one of the key features of LAWA’s proposed Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), which envisions new ways to reach the airport, as well as a 40 percent reduction in the current traffic in the CTA, by late 2023 or early 2024.
