WORK FOR AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER STATIONS MAY AFFECT OVERNIGHT TRAFFIC ON CENTER WAY

(Los Angeles, California – June 22, 2017) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced today that overnight surveying work may cause brief delays for guests using Center Way at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beginning the early morning of Monday, June 26.

The work, which will take place between 12:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays, will require rolling closures of one lane at a time, and is scheduled to minimize impact on motorists.  Crews should be in one location for no more than five minutes. When lanes adjacent to the parking structures are closed, some payment booths will be briefly out of service, although at least three booths will be available at all times.

LAWA contactors will survey locations that will be used to drill potholes for exploration of underground utility locations during the planning stages for three Automated People Mover (APM) stations that would be constructed inside the Central Terminal Area (CTA).  The potholing work will also require overnight lane closures on Center Way.

The APM is one of the key features of LAWA’s proposed Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), which envisions new ways to reach the airport, as well as a 40 percent reduction in the current traffic in the CTA, by early 2024.
