Operational Changes Coming to Flyaway Nonstop Bus Service's Van Nuys, Orange Line, and Westwood Services in New Year

OPERATIONAL CHANGES COMING TO FLYAWAY NONSTOP BUS SERVICE'S VAN NUYS, ORANGE LINE, AND WESTWOOD SERVICES IN NEW YEAR
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials are announcing the following operational changes to portions of the FlyAway nonstop bus service to and from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). These changes are expected to enhance operational efficiency for the 1.8 million riders that use the FlyAway service each year.

Effective Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, vehicle parking at the Van Nuys FlyAway Bus Terminal will cost $1 per hour, with a maximum of $5 per day. This is a net increase of only $1 per day for travelers choosing to park at the bus terminal. The fare for the Van Nuys FlyAway service itself remains unchanged at $9.75 one way.

Effective Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, the Westwood FlyAway nonstop service will remove its 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m., 9:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. trips departing both the Westwood FlyAway stop and LAX. The decision, which will shift the route's hours of operation to 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., was made due to low ridership during the earlier and later trips. The service's fare is unchanged at $10 one way.

Effective 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, pick-ups and drop-offs at the Orange Line (OL) LA Metro bus stop, which are made by Van Nuys FlyAway coaches, will cease.

The Orange Line stop currently averages one passenger pickup for every seven trips, and fell as low as one passenger pickup per every 10 trips earlier this calendar year. One stopover for the OL can delay a Van Nuys shuttle up to 15 minutes to a given trip, even if no passengers are picked up. The elimination of this stop will open up additional seats on each coach that were previously held for Orange Line riders, but were seldom used. Starting February 1, 2019, all seats on the bus will be available for Van Nuys FlyAway guests departing from the bus terminal.

FlyAway nonstop bus service will continue unchanged from five sites: Hollywood, Long Beach, Union Station, Van Nuys, and Westwood/UCLA.
