LAX TO RESTRICT ACCESS TO ONLY TICKETED PASSENGERS, THOSE MEETING OR ASSISTING THEM, AND AIRPORT PERSONNEL

(Los Angeles, CA) Due to limited flight and passenger activity, social distancing directives, terminal cleaning and sanitizing protocols, construction and a priority to keep all guests and employees at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) safe and healthy, LAX’s Central Terminal Area (CTA) will restrict access 24 hours a day 7 days a week to only:

  • Ticketed airline passengers and persons meeting, accompanying or assisting them (airline check-in counters and federal passenger security screening will be open depending upon flight schedules for each terminal); and
  • Airport and City personnel whose employment requires their presence.

In March, LAX implemented a nighttime closure policy (between midnight and 5 a.m.). The full-time closure to the general public is an expansion of that policy. Violators will be asked to leave. Those who refuse to comply are subject to arrest and misdemeanor prosecution.

LAX operates 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, which means that at any given time there will be employees and guests within the CTA, terminals and parking structures. Authorized airport and city personnel and ticketed passengers and their guests will be allowed access.

This closure to the public is similar to policies at other airports, including Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Signage is being posted on and around airport property informing the public of the closure and the FlyLAX.com and LAWA.org websites have been updated with this information.

About Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.

To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
