(Los Angeles) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) welcomed over 1,100 guests from its surrounding community, across the U.S., and around the world at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)’s Terminal 9 Industry Showcase, making it one of the highest-attended procurement events in the airport’s history. During the showcase, the audience heard from Board of Airport Commissioners member Karim Webb, LAWA Chief Executive Officer Justin Erbacci, Chief Development Officer Terri Mestas, and other airport leaders about its newest transformation project. Terminal 9 will bring roughly 1.4 million square feet of ground-up construction to LAX’s campus to serve an estimated 7.2 million annual departing domestic and international passengers. The terminal will become emblematic of LAX because of its prominence at the airport's new front door while remaining within LAX’s existing footprint.

“The fact that LAWA’s Terminal 9 Industry Showcase had a turn-out of over 1,100 attendees is a testament to our community and the world’s ongoing interest in being part of LAX’s transformation,” said Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, LAWA. “Like our soon-to-be-open People Mover train and ConRAC facility, Terminal 9 will make our world-class airport even more reliable, innovative and enjoyable, all while supporting our local workforce and contributing billions of dollars to the local economy.”

Terminal 9 will be home to approximately 12 wide-body or 17 narrow-body gates, and its square footage makes it around 40% larger than LAX’s most recently completed large-scale gate addition project, the Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) North, which opened in 2021. The program for Terminal 9 includes a 4-level building structure, 2-levels of parking, independent access and on-site circulation roads, pedestrian pathways and baggage connections to the Central Terminal Area, and importantly, a connection to LAX’s People Mover train with a new, dedicated stop for the terminal. Equally important, the concessions at Terminal 9 will create opportunities to showcase and support the local vendors that make L.A. a premier destination.

“In many ways, Terminal 9 will become symbolic of a new era of architecture, design and inclusiveness at our campus, underscoring our reputation as a pacesetter that leads by example,” said Terri Mestas, Chief Development Officer, Los Angeles World Airports. “Our continued transformation won't just benefit LAX, but the entire Southern California region and our guests and partners from around the world.”

LAX’s Terminal 9’s RFQ will be released by June 2023. Questions relating to the project and its procurement process can be sent to TDGProcurement@lawa.org.

About Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.

To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
