Congestion in and around the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has been a persistent and growing issue affecting commuters. commuteLAX was launched in 2021 to help 40,000* LAX employees find sustainable transportation options to help ease their commute to work. By providing subsidy programs for Transit and Carpool and matching potential carpoolers and vanpoolers, commuteLAX has helped hundreds of employees take cars off the road while saving money and time off their commutes.
We at commuteLAX:
- Operate a counter at the Security Badge Office (SBO) to serve employees who are visiting the SBO to renew or receive their new LAX badge.
- Provide a Transit Pass to LAX Employees for just $20 a month: participants pay just $20 while LAWA covers the rest. If their employers offer transit subsidies or parking cashouts, participants can sign up for our program for a one-time $2 fee.
- Provide carpool and vanpool matching for LAX Employees through the Interest Form
- Conduct the annual Workforce Survey, which is distributed to Employee Transportation Coordinators (ETCs), to collect information on the number of LAX badged employees who commute regularly to LAX and commuter benefits offered to their employees.
- Conduct the annual Employee Transportation Survey, which is distributed to LAX employees, to collect information about their commute and parking patterns, awareness of various commute options and benefits.
- Host quarterly meetings with ETCs, sharing updates on mobility improvements and commute programs at LAX.
- Issue a newsletter called the Commute Connector, which is sent to ETCs and LAX Employees.
*40,000 includes TMO represented employees and LAWA employees as of December 2024.
