(Los Angeles, California - August 2, 2019) Los Angeles Airport Police Chief David L. Maggard Jr. swears-in three new officers following a graduation ceremony held at the historic Los Angeles Police Academy in the hills of Elysian Park.

In a sea of blue, polished and proud the 43 graduates of LAPD Academy Class 2/19, which included three new Airport Police Officers, completed the six month police academy. New Airport Police Officer Edward Davila, a former Long Beach Police Explorer and graduate of Long Beach City College; Officer Robert Miele, class vice president and recipient of the Best in EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) award; and Officer Jared Stokes, class leader, recipient of the Human Relations Award, recipient of the Tina Kerbrat Award for most inspirational recruit and recipient of the prestigious William H. Parker Award for top overall recruit, proudly stood before family and friends and took the oath of a police officer.

Before swearing-in his newest officers, Chief Maggard said "It's an exciting time to begin your career as an Airport Police Officer, there are many opportunities waiting for you and we will provide you with the tools to get there.”

The three new officers join the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation with responsibilities that include patrolling Los Angeles International Airport, the number two busiest airport in the country. They will now begin a six-month Field Training Program specific to aviation law enforcement under the guidance of a Field Training Officer. Upon completion, they will be assigned to the Patrol Services Section.

In addition to 550 sworn officers, Los Angeles Airport Police Division also employs 430 security officers and nearly 200 civilian professional staff. As the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation, Airport Police patrols and secures Los Angeles International Airport, the nation’s second busiest and world’s fourth busiest airport, and Van Nuys general aviation airport.
