Brian C. Ostler is a Sr. Assistant City Attorney with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office and serves as General Counsel to Los Angeles World Airports. Ostler was appointed LAWA General Counsel in 2021.

As General Counsel he advises LAWA’s Board of Airport Commissioners, the Department, the Department’s Chief Executive Officer, the City Council and its subcommittees on legal matters relating to the operation and management of the Airport System. He manages the 19 attorneys, plus support staff, who make up the Airports Division of the City Attorney’s Office and is responsible for overseeing all cases and contracts relating to the Airport System and providing specialized legal counsel on federal regulatory matters governing airports. Prior to his appointment as General Counsel, Ostler served for over 15 years at LAWA as lead attorney responsible for advising the Department on construction, planning, and development related legal issues. Prior to joining the City, Ostler spent eight years in private practice.

Ostler served as the Chair of the Construction Law Subsection of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Real Property Section Subsection in 2007-2009, and in 2003-2006, Ostler was elected by the residents of La Crescenta to serve as a member of the Crescenta Valley Town Council. Additionally, Ostler served for a year on the Board of Directors of the Engineering Contractors’ Association.

Ostler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Brigham Young University, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern Law School.
