(Los Angeles, CA) With the busy summer travel season - and the temperatures that come with it - right around the corner, it is more important than ever to stay hydrated. On World Environment Day, Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) officials want to remind guests about the many water refills stations located throughout Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
"LAX is committed to protecting the environment and helping our guests do the same," said Samantha Bricker, Deputy Executive Director for Environmental Programs, LAWA. "Our water bottle refill stations are both environmentally and pocketbook friendly, and we encourage our guests to bring their empty bottles to fill once they get through security."
In 2016, research showed that more than 480 billion plastic drinking bottles were sold across the world, with many of those bottles ending up in landfills or the world's oceans. One of the ways that waste can be minimized is to reduce purchases of one-time use containers, or to use a refillable bottle instead.
In light of the billions of disposable water bottles sold and discarded around the world, LAWA is doing its part by helping reduce plastic waste. Refill stations also help conserve water by reducing reliance on sources of imported bottled water, with an added benefit of reducing the amount of energy used to transport that bottled water across great distances.

About Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

LAX is also the second most popular airport in the world to appear on Instagram according to wego.com. LAX is part of a system of two Southern California airports – along with Van Nuys general aviation – that are owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, a proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles that receives no funding from the City’s general fund.
