ALPERT, SCHAFFER JOIN BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS
(Los Angeles, California – August 8, 2000) Lee Kanon Alpert, an attorney, and Mark Edward Schaffer, an independent management consultant, were confirmed today as members of the Los Angeles World Airports Board of Airport Commissioners by the Los Angeles City Council.
Alpert and Schaffer join Christopher C. Pak, an architect, as the newest members of the Airport Commission. Mayor Richard Riordan previously announced their appointments, along with the reappointment of Miguel Contreras, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. Contreras and Pak were confirmed by the City Council July 14 for terms that end June 30, 2005
The new members are joining the expanded seven-member Board of Airport Commissioners that is led by President John J. Agoglia, a veteran broadcaster and consultant. Educator and housing developer Dr. Warren W. Valdry is also a member, serving on the commission since 1993.
Alpert is an attorney and principal shareholder of Alpert & Barr, a professional law corporation. He is a member of the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles Bar Associations. An ardent civic leader, he serves as co-chair of the California State
Assembly Small Business Advisory Council and as a member of the Los Angeles County Commission on Judicial Procedures. Prior to his new commission appointment, he was vice president of the City of Los Angeles Board of Building and Safety Commissioners.
Alpert’s appointment is for a term ending June 30, 2001.
Schaffer, an independent management consultant, is former executive vice president of Lowe Enterprises Investment Management, Inc. He previously served as president of Amfac Distribution, Hawaii, Inc. and managing partner for the law firm of Tuttle and Taylor. Schaffer is being appointed for the term ending June 30, 2004.
Pak is the founder and principal architect of Archeon International Group, an architectural, planning and interiors firm. His active civic and community service includes chairman of the City of Los Angeles Board of Zoning Appeals and as a member of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. In addition, Pak served as chair of Opportunity LAX and as a board member of the Korean American Coalition, Westchester YMCA, and Consumer Advisory Panel for Southern California Edison. His term ends June 30, 2005.
