FIRST CONTRACT AWARDED FOR SOUNDPROOFING HOMES NEAR VAN NUYS AIRPORT

(Los Angeles, California – March 6, 2001) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has awarded a $419,000 contract to Professional Building Contractors, Inc., El Segundo, to provide sound insulation improvements to a group of 31 Van Nuys residences near Van Nuys Airport (VNY). These homes are the first to be sound-insulated in the LAWA Residential Soundproofing Program.

The Van Nuys program includes 1,050 residences with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher. The $15 million airport-funded program includes installation of double-paned windows, solid-core doors, and insulation materials designed to reduce interior noise levels by one half.

The program is administered by LAWA, a Los Angeles City department that owns and operates VNY, Los Angeles International, Ontario International, and Palmdale Regional Airports.

A Van Nuys Community Office is located at 16525 Sherman Way, Suite C-1. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A product showroom featuring windows, doors and insulation techniques used in the program is also open during business hours. Residents may call (818) 909-3573 for information or to determine program eligibility.
