BOAC APPROVES LAX JOBS CENTER LEASE

(Los Angeles, California – March 6, 2001) Helping to facilitate access to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) business and employment opportunities, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved a three-year lease for a newly developed LAX Jobs Center.

LAWA’s Small Business and Job Opportunities Division will lease a 10,607-square-foot office in the Airport Spectrum Building located at 5757 West Century Boulevard between Airport and Aviation Boulevards in the Los Angeles community of Westchester.

The Jobs Center is designed to link the more than 250 employers based at LAX with qualified job applicants. Through connections with more than 35 community outreach partners, a large pool of qualified applicants can be tapped by airport-wide employers. Center staff will identify employer staffing needs and utilize a variety of methods to match qualified applicants with job opportunities.

"Until the Jobs Center, there really wasn’t a centralized location for all available jobs at LAX," said Dr. Warren W. Valdry, a member of the Board of Airport Commissioners. "One of our priorities is growth in the area of small business development and job opportunities. A community-based office provides a solid foundation toward facilitating employment opportunities at LAX and creating an ‘even playing field" on which small businesses can reasonably compete for contract and procurement opportunities."

For more information about the LAX Jobs Center, please contact LAWA’s Small Business and Job Opportunities Division at (310) 417-6490.
