CONTRACT EXTENDED FOR SOUNDPROOFING DESIGN AND CONSULTING SERVICES
(Los Angeles, California - December 1, 2001) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has amended its contract with Corlett Skaer & Devoto Architects, Inc. (CSDA) of San Francisco to provide acoustic design and consulting services for 700 additional residential units that are expected to enroll in the LAWA Soundproofing Program during the coming year. Currently, CSDA has successfully completed design on approximately 1,800 units in communities adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This extension will help ensure program continuity and consistency in serving the community.
To date, the total number of homes completed or in the process of soundproofing construction is 2,500. The residences are outfitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing improvements.
The noise mitigation program includes nearly 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.
The program is administered by the LAX Residential Soundproofing Division. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Soundproofed model homes in Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles are open to visitors by appointment. Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for information.
