OVER 1,050 DISPLACED AVIATION-INDUSTRY WORKERS SEEK JOBS LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS JOB FAIR

(Los Angeles, California -- November 8, 2001) Over 1,050 displaced aviation-industry workers attended today the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Small Business & Job Opportunities Center's "We Care Job Fair." Over 60 employers interviewed candidates and provided information on more than 2,300 job openings.

Positions from entry-level to senior management in a wide range of fields including computer and technical, retail, police/fire/security, and customer service were offered by employers such as Bank of America, Disney, Mellon Financial, Raytheon, Rite Aid, McDonalds, and local police departments. In addition, recruiters from the Federal Aviation Administration accepted applications for passenger security-related positions announced only three days ago by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta.

"We are very pleased with today’s turnout," said Joyce Sloss, director of LAWA's Small Business & Job Opportunities Center. "We will now communicate with the employers to determine how many positions were filled, then decide if and when another job fair should be scheduled."

Job seekers were provided with a list of available jobs and a schedule of training classes on resume writing and job interviewing skills. The list of available jobs, as well as information on a wide range of services for job seekers, is available at the LAWA Small Business & Job Opportunities Center located at 5757 West Century Boulevard, Suite 102, in Los Angeles. The center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is free validated parking.
