MAJOR INTERSECTION AT ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CLOSED TEMPORARILY FOR CONSTRUCTION

 

Ontario, California --- (September 27, 2001) The intersection of Vineyard Avenue and Airport Drive at Ontario International Airport (ONT) is temporarily closed as construction continues on the westerly portion of Airport Drive, which is currently being widened from two lanes to six lanes. The intersection is scheduled to reopen in early October when the reconfiguration of underground electrical, gas, water, and telephone lines are completed.

The closure prohibits vehicle traffic in all directions of the intersection but detours are set up around impacted areas to direct traffic to ONT's facilities, terminals, and parking lots. The public should use the Archibald Avenue exit off the 10 Freeway for easy access to the terminals.

The following are directions to airport facilities, terminals, and parking lots during closure:

  1. Access to Airlines (Terminals 2 and 4): Vehicles exiting the 10 Freeway at Vineyard Avenue will travel southbound to Holt Boulevard, turn left on Holt Boulevard, turn right on Guasti Road, and turn right on Archibald Avenue to the airport. Vehicles exiting the 60 Freeway at Grove Avenue will travel northbound to Mission Boulevard, turn right on Mission Boulevard, turn left on Haven Avenue, and turn left on Airport Drive to the airport.

     

  2. Access to Parking Lot F: Vehicles traveling westbound on Airport Drive will turn left on Terminal Way, which will become a 2-way road in front of Terminals 1 and 1A. Vehicles will remain in the far right hand lane and proceed to the entrance gates.

     

  3. Access to International Terminal: Vehicles exiting the 10 Freeway at Vineyard Avenue will travel southbound to Holt Boulevard, turn left on Holt Boulevard, turn right on Guasti Road, turn right on Archibald Avenue, turn right on Airport Drive, turn left on a paved detour road (approximately 50 feet west of the parking lot), and immediately turn left on International Way. Vehicles will not be able to access this area traveling from any other direction due to the Airport Drive and Vineyard Avenue intersection closure.

     

  4. Access to Air Freight Hangar: Vehicles will travel westbound on Airport Drive to Terminal Way, turn left on Terminal Way, staying to the left and travel along the old West Baggage Road to hangar. Old West Baggage Road will become a two-way road and traffic returning to Terminal Way will be routed around the Air Freight Hangar.

     

  5. Access to Evergreen and Hangar 20: Use the same directions to the Air Freight Hangar but continue westbound past the Air Freight Hangar through the former Lockheed property.
The public is reminded that parking and waiting in front of the terminals and curbside luggage check-in are not allowed. Only immediate passenger drop-off and pick-up are permitted. Unattended vehicles will be cited and/or towed. ONT is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, a Los Angeles city department which also owns and operates Los Angeles International, Van Nuys, and Palmdale Regional Airports.
