HOLIDAY TRAVEL TIPS FOR ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT USERS

Ontario, California (December 19, 2001) --- Travelers using Ontario International Airport (ONT) should plan ahead as passenger traffic is expected to increase significantly this weekend. To avoid possible delays due to traffic, parking, check-in procedures, and security screening, travelers are advised of the following:

  • Get to the airport at least two hours before their flight departs. The new ONT has many restaurants and shops located on the second floor. Ticketed passengers with extra time can eat or shop while they wait for their flight to depart.

  • Use Economy Lot F, located one mile west of the terminals, which costs $6 per day. Free shuttle service is available every 10 to 12 minutes. Parking lots directly in front of the terminals fill up quickly and cost from $7 to $10 per day.

  • Use alternate transportation such as shuttle vans, taxis, and limousines.

  • Carry photo identification.

  • Bring airline ticket confirmations such as e-ticket receipts or itineraries. Confirmations are available at the ticket counters. Only ticketed passengers are permitted on the second floor of ONT's terminals.

  • Scissors, knives, nail clippers and other sharp objects, along with hair spray, deodorant spray and other aerosol sprays, are prohibited in carry-on luggage. These items should be placed in "checked" luggage delivered at the ticket counter.

  • Put cellular phones, pagers, keys, pocket change, large belt buckles, and other metal objects in a carry-on bag before walking through security screening. Carry-ons are smaller suitcases or overnight bags that can be checked through security screening and brought on the plane. Placing metal objects in carry-ons reduces the possibility of setting off the metal detector and slowing security screening lines. One carry-on bag and a personal item, such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop are allowed per passenger.

  • Do not bring wrapped holiday gifts. They are subject to being unwrapped through security screening or random luggage search.

  • Expect random luggage searches at anytime.

  • Do not bring any fruit or vegetables. ONT is under an Oriental Fruit Fly quarantine. Please call (909) 937-8666 for further information.
ONT's "meeter-greeters" are reminded that:
  • The terminal curbside is for immediate drop-off and pick-up only. There is no waiting or parking at the curb. Unattended vehicles at curbside will be cited and towed.

  • Many of ONT's airlines allow curbside luggage check-in. However, please call your airline beforehand to confirm.

The public can call ONT's toll free number at 1-866-456-3900 for airport travel and security information.

ONT is located 40 miles east of Los Angeles and is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a department of the City of Los Angeles. LAWA also owns and operates Los Angeles International, Van Nuys and Palmdale Regional Airports. ONT currently handles 6.7 million passengers a year.
