LAX OPENS NEW FACILITY FOR PASSENGERS BEING DROPPED OFF AIRPORT

(Los Angeles, California -- September 17, 2001) Effective Tuesday, September 18, at 5:00 am, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will open a special stop for passengers being dropped off for departing flights ONLY at the airport. The new drop-off stop will be located at 9011 Airport Boulevard north of the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Arbor Vitae/Westchester Parkway. Free LAX shuttle buses will pick up passengers for the short ride to the passenger terminals 24 hours a day. No parking will be allowed in or around this new facility.

Due to heightened security measures, private vehicles are being prohibited on CTA roadways and the parking structures next to the passenger terminals are closed. Commercial ground transportation vehicles, and private vehicles with handicap placards and/or license plates ONLY are allowed into the CTA.

"The new facility is one of several measures Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is implementing to enhance ground transportation at the airport while also ensuring that the highest levels of security and safety are maintained," said Lydia H. Kennard, LAWA executive director. "Establishing a separate location for passenger drop-offs will reduce the number of vehicles in LAX Parking Lots B and C and help preserve those facilities for parking."

Drivers picking up arriving passengers should arrange to meet them at LAX Parking Lot B located at 111th Street and La Cienega Boulevard.

Travelers are also being urged to allow extra time for processing into the airport and to use public transportation services available to LAX. Public transportation include:

  • Metro Rail Green Line to the Aviation Station with free shuttles to and from the passenger terminals
  • Van Nuys FlyAway bus
  • Door-to-door shuttle vans
  • Direct-to-airport buses
  • Rental car and hotel courtesy shuttle vans, taxis, limousines, and public buses
