AIRPORT POLICE’S LOST AND FOUND BOOSTS ITS OPERATIONAL HOURS

(Los Angeles, CA - August 10, 2001) Passengers who may have lost an item while at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will have more assistance to find it, thanks to an increase in Airport Police’s Lost and Found operational hours. The hours have been increased to 4:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Previously, the operating hours were 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

The increase reflects Airport Police’s dedication in helping passengers locate their missing items. Travelers who notice they have lost something during their travel should contact the Airport Police’s Lost and Found section at (310) 417-0440.

"We have extended our operational hours to provide travelers more opportunity to locate their lost belongings," said Lieutenant Karen Schulz, officer-in-charge of Management Services which oversees Lost and Found. "We understand how stressful it can be to lose a valuable item during a vacation, and our hopes are to reunite the public with their property as quickly as possible."

During non-business hours, passengers can call Lost and Found and leave a message on voice mail. An officer will return the call the following business day.

Approximately 200 items per month are taken to Airport Police. The items are kept for 97 days, after which the items are sent to LAPD to be auctioned.

Passengers who may have lost an item aboard an airplane or within airline property leasehold areas should also contact the airline.
