CONTRACTS AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING NEAR LAX
(Los Angeles, California -August 7, 2001) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded two contracts for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Both contracts, with a combined value of $2,386,505, were awarded to F.H. Paschen/SN Nielsen of Santa Fe Springs. The contracts cover sound-insulation modifications on 99 single- and multi-family residences located in the communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey, and South Los Angeles.
These contract awards bring the total number of homes completed or in the process of soundproofing construction to 2,136. The residences are outfitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing improvements.
Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Lydia H. Kennard said, " We are pleased with the progress of the soundproofing program which has proven to be an important component of our ongoing efforts to partner with the local community."
The LAX noise mitigation program includes nearly 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey, and South Los Angeles with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.
The program is administered by the LAX Residential Soundproofing Bureau. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Soundproofed model homes in Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles are open to visitors by appointment. Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for information.
