ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT POLICE CHIEF DIES AT 62
Ontario, California - (July 9, 2002) Ontario International Airport (ONT) Chief of Airport Police John W. Bangs, died at his home today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced. He was 62.
"With the passing of Chief Bangs, LAWA and the aviation community have lost an extraordinary law enforcement leader," said Lydia H. Kennard, LAWA executive director. "His professionalism and dedication to serving the public over many years will long be remembered by all of us who had the privilege to work with and know him. He will be greatly missed."
Chief Bangs served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Los Angeles Police Department with 20 years service. He then served with the airport police at Los Angeles International Airport for 12 years before becoming ONT's police chief.
"Chief Bangs' passing is a great loss for the Ontario Airport family," said Jens Rivera, ONT Airport Manager. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in their time of grief."
Chief Bangs leaves behind his wife Donna Bangs, two sons, a daughter and seven grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
