CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING NEAR LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

 

(Los Angeles, California -- May 21, 2002) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded Professional Building Contractors, Inc. (PBC) of Seattle, Washington, a contract for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The $1,119,400 contract will cover sound-insulation modifications on six apartment buildings consisting of 137 dwelling units located within the noise-impacted area of Westchester and Playa del Rey.

This contract award brings the total number of homes completed or in the process of soundproofing construction to 2,799. The residences will be retrofitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation, and other necessary soundproofing modifications .

The noise mitigation program includes nearly 9,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded community Noise Equivalency Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.

Los Angeles World Airports' Residential Soundproofing Division administers the program. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
