Ontario International Airport Picks Up Additional Daily Nonstop Service to Denver

Ontario, California (April 4, 2002) -- Travelers using Ontario International Airport (ONT) can fly nonstop on Frontier JetExpress from Ontario, California to Denver, Colorado starting April 7. Frontier will offer two daily nonstop flights using a 50-seat regional jet (RJ) aircraft.

Flight 3288 will depart ONT at 6:50 a.m. and arrive in Denver at 10 a.m. (except Sundays). Flight 3280 will depart ONT at 11:15 a.m. and arrive in Denver at 2:25 p.m. From Denver, flight 3899 will depart at 8:50 a.m. and arrive in Ontario at 10:10 a.m. Flight 3893 will depart from Denver at 8:55 p.m. and arrive in Ontario at 10:15 p.m. (except Saturdays).

Frontier will add a third daily flight to Denver beginning May 1st. From Denver, flight 3891 will depart at 12:05 p.m. and arrive in Ontario at 1:25 p.m. (except Sundays). Flight 3282 will depart ONT at 2:50 p.m. and arrive in Denver at 4 p.m. (except Sundays).

"Frontier’s new service at Ontario International is significant in several ways," said Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn. "Establishing new airline service at Ontario addresses regional air traffic demand, stimulates competition at Ontario, and provides better service for business and leisure travelers."

Mayor Hahn’s goal is to move forward with a regional air transportation plan that includes easing demand at Los Angeles International Airport by focusing on initiatives for ONT to attract and retain new and additional air service. Mayor Hahn helped land AeroMexico’s daily flights from ONT to Hermosillo - which began earlier this year - after he met with AeroMexico’s President Alfonso Pasquel last November.

Frontier, operated by Denver-based Frontier Airlines in partnership with Phoenix-based Mesa Air Group, will be ONT’s fourteenth passenger airline. Airlines currently serving ONT include AeroMexico, Alaska, American, America West, Continental, Delta, Delta Connection, jetBlue, Northwest, Skywest, Southwest, United and United Express.

"Ontario’s central location and robust business economy makes it a very appealing destination for leisure and business travelers," said Frontier’s Vice President of Marketing and Planning Sean Menke. "We are pleased to team up with Mesa Air Group to offer this new service as Frontier JetExpress and see great opportunity for customers from ONT, traveling both to Denver and through Denver to other Frontier cities, to benefit from Frontier’s affordable rates."

Located approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, ONT is located in the City of Ontario in the Inland Empire region. The Inland Empire, which covers San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, is one of the fastest growing areas in Southern California.

"We wholeheartedly support and will continue to work with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to attract new and additional service to ONT," said City of Ontario Mayor Gary Ovitt. "Such efforts benefit everyone by providing additional air passenger service for residents and businesses, and by generating more tourism in greater Ontario. Such efforts are investments in the evolution and growth of our economy, and directly enable us to reinvest in our community."

LAWA Executive Director Lydia Kennard said, "Mayor Hahn, LAWA and the City of Ontario are united in focusing on a regional air transportation system to meet Southern California’s air traffic demand. We are moving toward that goal by having Ontario International play an ever increasing role in the region’s air transportation system."

ONT features a new 530,000-square-foot twin terminal complex capable of handling up to 10 million passengers a year. The $270 million terminals opened in September 1998 to accommodate growth at ONT, which currently handles 6.7 million annual passengers.

ONT is owned and operated by LAWA, a Los Angeles city department which also owns and operates Los Angeles International (LAX), Palmdale Regional (PMD) and Van Nuys (VNY) Airports.
