LAX TO HOLD SEPTEMBER 11 REMEMBRANCE EVENT FOR PUBLIC

(Los Angeles, California - September 10, 2003) Officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) today announced plans to commemorate the second anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, with a "Circle of Unity" ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the airport's landmark Theme Building in the Central Terminal Area.

"Our airport was tragically linked to the terrorist attacks on our nation, as three of the four hijacked flights were bound for LAX. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is inviting the public to attend its special ceremony to remember and reflect about these events two years later," said Kim Day, LAWA interim executive director.

Beginning at noon Thursday, Sept. 11, airport officials will invite the public, airport employees and passengers to form a silent human "Circle of Unity" around the airport's landmark Theme Building. A moment of silence will be followed by the singing of "God Bless America" and the distribution of small U.S. flags. This event will recreate the original event held Sept. 14, 2001, the first full day of flight activity after the tragic events of Sept. 11.

The public is invited to the event and parking will be validated for up to two hours in all of the airport's Central Terminal Area parking structures.
