FAA APPROVES LAX MASTER PLAN PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD EXTENSION

(Los Angeles, California -- August 19, 2003) The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today notified Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) that it has approved a 75-day extension of the public review and comment period for the Supplement to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report for the Los Angeles International Airport Master Plan for a total of 120 days and the scheduling of three additional public hearings. The comment period will now end on November 7, 2003.

The FAA decision came in response to a request from the Board of Airport Commissioners, which voted unanimously August 11 to request the extension after receiving a letter from Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn expressing support of a City Council resolution calling for a total public comment period of 120 days.

The dates and locations of the additional three public hearings will be announced shortly with at least 30 days notice.
