CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR MARCH 20, 2003, AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(Los Angeles, California -- March 20, 2003) Prepared statement by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials on operational conditions expected today at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX):
- All airline operations at LAX are expected to be normal today, except for possible flight delays due to weather conditions at other airports. Passengers are reminded to check with their airlines before coming to the airport to ensure their flights are on time.
- All roadways in the Central Terminal Area are open, and all vehicles entering the airport are subject to inspection.
- Airport Police has established vehicle checkpoints (similar to sobriety checkpoints) at the three major entrances to the airport: (1) westbound Century Boulevard; (2) 96th Street and (3) northbound Sepulveda Boulevard ramp, just north of the Sepulveda Tunnel. A lesser- used fourth entrance at "Little Century" and Sepulveda Boulevard is closed except to vehicles going to a private parking lot called Park One. Passengers are advised to add a few minutes to their drive time in case they are delayed at the vehicle checkpoints.
- Passengers and visitors will see a higher law enforcement presence throughout LAX, including police officers on patrol, on motorcycles and in vehicles, as well as K-9 units.
- These conditions will be in effect until further notice.
