LOS ANGELES AND ONTARIO AIRPORTS MAINTAIN UPWARD TREND IN PASSENGER AND CARGO VOLUMES DURING AUGUST

 

(Los Angeles, California – September 30, 2004) Passenger traffic climbed strongly in August at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and continued its double-digit ascent for year to date.

Total passenger volume increased 8 percent to 5,856,154 passengers for the month, airport officials reported. International passengers increased 9 percent in August, compared with the same month last year. Domestic traffic rose 7.55 percent.

For the first eight months of 2004, domestic and international passenger traffic was up 11 percent to 41,208,337, compared with 37,123,150 for the same period in 2003.

At Ontario International Airport (ONT), passenger traffic increased 4.8 percent in August compared with August last year. Year to date, ONT traffic is up 5.8 percent to 4,687,990 passengers. Airport officials forecast ONT to reach a record-breaking seven million passengers for 2004.

Air cargo tonnage at LAX for the first eight months of 2004 totaled 1.36 million, up 4.6 percent from the previous year. At ONT, air cargo tonnage for 2004 totaled 401,013 through August, an increase of 10.3 percent over the same period last year.

LAWA is a City of Los Angeles department that owns and operates four airports: LAX, ONT, Van Nuys (general aviation) and Palmdale Regional (PMD).
