ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OFFERS TRAVEL TIPS FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S HOLIDAY PERIOD

 

(Ontario, California – December 20, 2004) Ontario International Airport (ONT) is expecting 350,000 travelers to pass through the airport from Friday, December 17 through Sunday, January 2, 2005, up six percent over the same period in 2003. The busiest travel days are expected to include Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23 and 24, and the weekend concluding Jan. 2, with flights on those peak days operating at capacity.

The Christmas and New Year's holiday period is one of the busiest at ONT but travelers should find a safe and efficient travel experience at the airport if they follow well-proven travel tips offered by airport officials.

"Although we expect a very busy holiday travel period, ONT is still the best alternative airport in Southern California," said Airport Manager Jens Rivera. "Travelers will get in and out of the airport hassle free if they plan ahead."

Travelers should remember:

  • Do not bring wrapped gifts to the airport. They may be opened for security screening purposes and items that are prohibited on aircraft may be confiscated. Unwrapped gifts should be placed in your luggage and wrapped at your final destination.
  • Do not pack or bring prohibited items to the airport. For a complete list of items prohibited in carry-on or checked baggage, visit the Transportation Security Administration website at www.TSATravelTips.us.
  • Travel light. Carry-on baggage is limited to one carry-on bag plus one personal item. Personal items include laptops, purses, backpacks, briefcases, diaper bags and camera cases.
  • Bring a government-issued photo identification for all travelers 18 years and older.
  • Place identification tags in and on all baggage.
  • Put all undeveloped film and videotape, and cameras with film and videotape in carry-on baggage. Checked-baggage screening equipment may damage or destroy undeveloped film and recorded videos.
  • Do not wear clothing, shoes or jewelry that contain metal, which could set off the metal detectors and prolong security screening procedures.
  • Call the airline to learn its baggage policy, including limits on number of pieces, weight and size.
  • Parents and legal custodians can make arrangements with airlines to escort minor children traveling unaccompanied by an adult to and from aircraft boarding gates. Otherwise, only ticketed passengers with a valid boarding pass are allowed beyond passenger screening checkpoints.
  • Call your airline to confirm your flight and to learn how early you should arrive for check-in. Allow sufficient time for parking, transport to the terminals and security screening.
  • Arrive in your airline's check-in lobby at least two hours before a domestic departure flight or three hours before an international flight.
  • If parking your vehicle, store belongings out of view, lock the car and take the parking ticket.
  • While at the airport, watch personal belongings at all times. Do not leave belongings unattended. Airport police will be on the lookout for unattended bags and luggage. Also, be aware of your surroundings. If you see any suspicious activity, call airport police immediately.

ONT is located approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The airport is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, a Los Angeles City department which also owns and operates Los Angeles International, Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys Airports.
