MAYOR HAHN APPOINTS DAVID VOSS, WALTER ZIFKIN AND JEROME STANLEY TO AIRPORT COMMISSION

(Los Angeles, California -- May 20, 2004) Mayor Jim Hahn today appointed David Voss, Walter Zifkin and W. Jerome Stanley to the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners.

“I am confident that each of these people will bring energy, experience and commitment to the Airport Commission to continue to make public safety the number one priority at LAX and our regional airports,” said Mayor Hahn.

David Voss is an attorney who has served the community through numerous organizations. He currently serves as an elected representative to the Westchester/Playa del Rey Neighborhood Council, and is president of the Westchester/LAX/Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce. He has served as president of the Venice-Marina Rotary Club, area representative for Rotary District 5280, and advisor to the Venice High School Circle of Supporters.

Earlier this year, Voss was recognized by the Venice Boys and Girls Club as Community Leader of the Year. He is a graduate of USC law school and received a master’s degree in political persuasion from Occidental College.

“I am very pleased to see that Mr. Voss has been selected to fill one of the two current vacancies on the Board of Airport Commissioners. His knowledge of the issues facing the Westchester community, his involvement in the business community, and his understanding of planning and land use issues will be a great asset as the Commission embarks on the Master Plan process for LAX. I look forward to working with him in his new capacity,” said Councilmember Cindy Miscikowski.

“The plans for the future of Los Angeles International Airport balance the needs and the safety of the traveler with the needs of our local community and respond to future regional demands for transportation. I am honored to have been selected by Mayor Hahn for this important commission and look forward to serving the residents of this city,” Voss said.

Walter Zifkin is chief executive officer of the William Morris Agency, Inc. Zifkin has numerous charitable and civic affiliations throughout the Los Angeles area and has served on several local committees including the Executive Committee of Cedars-Sinai Health System; the Board of Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services; and the Mayor’s Economic Advisory Council for the City of Beverly Hills. Zifkin recently joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic Board of Overseers. He earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and is a graduate of USC law school.

“I am looking forward to serving the residents of this great city and am honored that Mayor Hahn has the confidence to appoint me to this commission,” Zifkin said.

Jerome Stanley is president of Stanley and Associates, a sports law firm. After graduating USC law school, Stanley, a native of South Los Angeles and a resident of Encino, assisted in the management of the careers of super-star athletes including Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Rodney Peete, Brian Shaw, and Keyshawn Johnson. Stanley is the first African-American sports agent to ever represent the number one pick of the National Football League (NFL) draft.

“I am thrilled that Mayor Hahn has given me this opportunity to represent Valley residents and serve all residents of this great city by working to enhance LAX’s status as a world class airport,” Stanley said.

The seven-member Board of Airport Commissioners governs Los Angeles World Airports. By the Charter of the City of Los Angeles, the Board is responsible for the formulation of airport policy. The Board is composed of public-spirited business and civic leaders who are appointed by the Mayor, approved by the City Council and serve staggered five-year terms. Commission policies are carried out by 27 divisions with professional and administrative staff of more than 2,500 employees who operate and maintain four airports: LAX, Palmdale Regional, Van Nuys and Ontario International.

David Voss is replacing a vacancy created by Ted Stein's resignation for a term ending June 30, 2006. Walter Zifkin is filling a vacancy left by Alan Llorens for a term ending June 30, 2005. Jerome Stanley is filling a vacancy created by Eileen Levine’s resignation for a term ending June 30, 2004.
