LOCAL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN VAN NUYS AIRPORT’S SECOND ANNUAL SUMMER AVIATION PROGRAM
| WHAT: | San Fernando Valley students from 11 local high schools will participate in Van Nuys Airport’s Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy, a weeklong motivational program designed to provide an understanding of career opportunities and operations at both Van Nuys and Los Angeles International Airports. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look at airport facilities and meet employees from a wide variety of trade and professional occupations as they tour Van Nuys Airport (VNY) and visit the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control tower, helicopter facilities and aviation companies specializing in corporate flight operations. The week’s activities will also include visits to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Naval Air Station Pt. Mugu and the Boeing Company in Long Beach. Excellent opportunity for interactive visuals. |

| WHEN: | Mon., August 22 – Fri., August 26, Student activities will include: Mon., 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.- VNY tours of FAA control tower, Clay Lacy Aviation, National Helicopter, airport operations and more Tue., 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.- LAX airfield tour, Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum tour at Compton/Woodley Airport, and more Wed., 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.- LAX day at Southwest Airlines, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency tour, U.S. Coast Guard facility tour Thu., 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.- Long Beach Airport tour, Boeing Company training facility tour, Long Beach Sheriff Air Rescue Unit tour Fri., 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.- Day at Naval Air Station Pt. Mugu, graduation ceremony at VNY’s Airtel Plaza Hotel (3:45 p.m.) |
