FIFTH SET OF PUBLIC OUTREACH MEETINGS FOR LAX MASTER PLAN

(Los Angeles, California – August 21, 2006) Two outreach meetings will be held Wednesday, August 23 and Saturday, August 26, 2006, for the public to participate in the LAX Master Plan Specific Plan Amendment Study. This is the fifth set of meetings of a community-based planning process for the modernization of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Two meetings are scheduled for the public's convenience, but will cover the same topics, so attendance is not necessary at both meetings. This fifth set of meetings will focus on discussion of preliminary concepts developed based upon public input received at the outreach meetings held in March, April, May and July.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The second meeting will be held on Saturday, August 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Both meetings will be conducted at the Flight Path Learning Center, 6661 West Imperial Highway, Los Angeles. Free parking is available on site.

These meetings are part of the process toward implementing the recent settlement of lawsuits filed against the LAX Master Plan. The LAX Specific Plan Amendment Study was one of the conditions of the settlement that called for the creation of a prompt, community-based planning process to revisit and potentially replace controversial "yellow light" projects, such as the Manchester Square Ground Transportation Center, with alternative projects that increase airport efficiency and mitigate traffic, noise and pollution.

The study will consist of a series of public planning meetings over a six-month period followed by a formal environmental review process.
