CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING NEAR LAX

(Los Angeles, California – January 23, 2006) The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to Professional Building Contractors, El Segundo, for a portion of the LAX Residential Soundproofing Program. The $1,072,800 contract covers sound insulation modifications on 29 single-family residences and one duplex located in South Los Angeles within Council District 8.

The overall program includes more than 8,000 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher. Contractors install double-paned windows, solid-core doors and attic insulation to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half in a home’s interior.

The 31 residences in this project will bring the number of total units to date, either completed or under construction, to 4,806.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau. A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for further information.
