CONTRACT AWARDED FOR SOUND INSULATION MODIFICATIONS NEAR LAX

(Los Angeles, California – November 5, 2007)  The Los Angles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to AMD Construction Group of the City of Orange for a portion of the Los AngelesInternationalAirport (LAX) Residential Soundproofing Program.   The $515,900 contract covers sound insulation modifications on 50 dwelling units consisting of 35 condominium units at Manitoba West, three condominiums at Manitoba Manor, 11 condominium units at Villas del Rey, and one condominium unit at CrossCreekVillage – all  in Los Angeles City Council District 11.

The overall LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes more than 8,200 residences  in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Play del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels or higher.  Contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately one-half a home’s interior.

The 50 dwelling units in this project will bring the number of total units either completed or under construction, and approved by the Board to 5,892.  The remaining 2,308 units are either in the design phase, awaiting commencement of design, or the owners have not responded or have declined to participate in the program.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau.  A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for further information.
