TRAFFIC ADVISORY -- Updated 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time -- TRAFFIC DETOURS NEAR LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT STILL IN EFFECT
(Los Angeles, California – October 17, 2007) Traffic detours are still in effect at northbound Sepulveda Blvd. at Imperial Highway near the entrance to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The detour is due to a water main break that occurred on Tuesday morning at the intersection of Century and Sepulveda Boulevards. According to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials, repairs to the break and street restoration are still expected to be completed about noon today.
Police and traffic officers continue to divert northbound Sepulveda Blvd. traffic ONLY at Imperial Highway to eastbound Imperial Highway to northbound Aviation Blvd. to westbound Century Blvd. to reach LAX or areas north of the airport. Motorists can also drive westbound on Imperial Highway to northbound Pershing Drive to eastbound Westchester Parkway to eastbound Lincoln Blvd. to southbound Sepulveda Blvd. to enter LAX from the north.
All entrances to LAX’s passenger terminal area remain open from: (1) the northbound Sepulveda Blvd. exit of westbound I-105 Century Freeway, (2) westbound Century Blvd., and (3) southbound Sepulveda Blvd.
Airport officials recommend motorists using southbound I-405 San Diego Freeway exit at Howard Hughes Parkway and use southbound Sepulveda Blvd. to reach LAX.
To reduce the number of vehicles heading to the LAX passenger terminal area, airport officials also recommend that passengers be dropped off at LAX Parking Lots B and C and take the free airport shuttle buses to the terminals. Parking Lot C is located at 96th Street and Sepulveda Blvd. Parking Lot B is located at 111th Street and La Cienega Blvd.
Flight operations at LAX remain normal.
The water main break is located under the northbound lanes of Sepulveda Blvd., 100 feet south of the intersection with Little Century Boulevard (a two-lane road that splits from westbound Century Boulevard located in front of the Radisson Hotel).
