DOMINIC NESSI TO HEAD LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS' INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DIVISION
(Los Angeles, California – September 24, 2007) Dominic Nessi has been appointed Chief Information Officer of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the Los AngelesCity department that owns and operates four Southern California airports: Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International, LA/Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys.
Nessi will be responsible for providing oversight over LAWA's Information Technology Division and is expected to play a key role in promoting technology initiatives and securing progressive and effective technology systems at LAWA’s four airports.
The Information Technology Division’s responsibilities include network planning, design, implementation and utilization of LAWA’s information technology infrastructure and related voice, data and video communications systems. The division is also responsible for client services, strategic planning, quality technological improvements and cost effectiveness.
In announcing the appointment, LAWA Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey said Nessi was evaluated as ”the best overall candidate for the position by virtue of his extensive experience in information technology, system development, real estate, project management and program and grants management in both the public and private sectors.”
Nessi served as vice president and chief information officer of Computer World Services Corporation in Washington, D.C. before assuming this position. Before that, he was the first chief information officer of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS), assuming that position in 2001.
As NPS chief information officer, Nessi oversaw all information technology and information management matters, including management of two major data centers in Washington, D.C. and Denver. He supervised 120 employees and contractors, had technical supervisory responsibility over more than 500 information technology employees and oversaw the NPS’ annual technology budget, which exceeded $200 million.
He gained additional experience by meeting the technology and communications needs of NPS’ law enforcement personnel, which totaled more than 3,000 law enforcement rangers and more than 800 U.S. Park Service Police officers.
Nessi served as chief information officer of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) from 1998 to 2001, overseeing the successful development of a critical and challenging system initiative in the federal government dealing with complex Indian land trust issues.
Prior to joining the BIA, Nessi served from 1988 through 1998 as a deputy assistant secretary in the Office of Public and Indian Housing for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, managing an annual budget of almost $1 billion for various programs for Native Americans.
Nessi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Roosevelt University in Chicago, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Northern Illinois University, a Masters in Public Administration with special emphasis in public policy from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a Master’s Certificate in Applied Project Management from Villanova University in Pennsylvania.
Nessi has received numerous awards and commendations for his professional achievements, most notably the Presidential Rank Award, the nation’s highest civilian award for federal executives; letters of commendation from three presidents and other awards from numerous Native American tribal governments and organizations.
