LA/PALMDALE REGIONAL AIRPORT TO SHOWCASE REMODELED TERMINAL ON MAY 8

(Palmdale, Calif. - April 27, 2007) -- The City of Palmdale and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) will host a community open house at LA/Palmdale Regional Airport (PMD) from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, to showcase the newly remodeled passenger terminal and a United Express regional jet.  The outreach event is intended to familiarize residents with the airport and introduce residents to United’s new service to San Francisco that begins June 7.

Palmdale Mayor James Ledford will preside at the dedication of the terminal building.  He will be joined by other elected officials, members of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, and LAWA and United Airlines officials.

"We are very pleased with the progress being made to prepare LA/Palmdale Regional Airport for jet service by a major worldwide airline like United,” said Mayor Ledford.  “The community open house on May 8 will provide a unique opportunity for the public to see the newly remodeled terminal and watch the arrival of the United Express jet for a special photo-op."

Located at 41000 20th Street East, PMD will offer travelers free parking for up to 30 days and a stress-free airport experience.  United will offer two daily roundtrip flights to its hub at San Francisco International Airport where travelers can connect to many international and domestic destinations.

“Why sit in traffic for hours driving to another airport, when LA/Palmdale is right in our backyard?” said Mayor Ledford.  “Just a short flight will take you to San Francisco where you can make a convenient connection on one of hundreds of daily flights to virtually anywhere you want to go.  By supporting our local airport, residents will encourage more airline service that in turn will create jobs and economic impact for the entire region.”

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said, “The opening of LA/Palmdale on June 7 is a major step toward realizing our city’s goal of a truly regional approach to meeting the growing demand for air travel in Southern California.”

PMD is located on a 60-acre site at U.S. Air Force Plant 42.  It is approximately 60 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles off State Highway 14.  LAWA owns 17,750 acres of land adjacent to Plant 42, most of which is available for development.  PMD is one of four airports owned and operated by LAWA, a City of Los Angeles department that also owns and operates Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys airports.
