ONT Employees Help Citizens Promote Public Safety

(ONTARIO, Calif. -- Aug. 4, 2008) -- LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) will participate in the city of Ontario National Night Out on Aug. 5.  This is the 25th year for the national event.  From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., ONT representatives will distribute safety and crime prevention materials to passengers in the airports terminals.

“The airport staff is enthusiastic to be involved in National Night Out,” said Jess Romo, ONT’s manager.  “This program is an effective way to promote safety throughout the community, especially in large public areas like an airport.”

“We are excited that ONT has partnered with the Ontario Police Department once again this year for National Night Out,” said Cecelia Huggins, Ontario Police Department crime prevention specialist and event coordinator.  “We like to include all segments of our community in this event and it’s important travelers are also aware of crime prevention strategies.”

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Night Out is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.  Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.  In all, over 35 million people participated in National Night Out 2007.

ONT is a medium-hub, full-service airport with commercial jet service to major U.S. cities and through service to many international destinations.  ONT is located in the Inland Empire, approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the center of Southern California.  The airport is the centerpiece of one of the fastest-growing transportation regions in the United States.  ONT's service area includes a population of six million people living in San Bernardino and RiversideCounties and portions of north OrangeCounty and east Los AngelesCounty.

ONT is one of four airports owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a Los AngelesCity department that oversees an airport system in the nation’s second largest metropolitan area.  The other airports owned and operated by LAWA are Los Angeles International, LA/Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys General Aviation.
