LAX FLYAWAY BUS SERVICE AT UNION STATION TO INCREASE EARLY MORNING FREQUENCY OF BUSES TO MEET GROWING DEMAND

(Los Angeles, California – July 25, 2008)  In response to growing passenger demand for LAX FlyAway bus service at Union Station, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials announced additional weekday bus service during the early morning schedule to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  The new schedule starts July 28, with additional buses in service to meet the growing demand from train and light rail commuters.

            The LAX FlyAway at Union Station handled 30 percent more riders or a total of 191,509 passengers, from January to June 2008, compared to the same period last year.

            The new schedule offers better train-to-FlyAway bus connections for travelers using Metrolink and Amtrak trains to Union Station and transferring to the non-stop LAX FlyAway to reach the airport. 

            The FlyAway operates from Union Station’s Patsaouras Transit Plaza Bus Stop 9, located on the east side of the station.  The new early morning departure times from Union Station on Monday-Friday are: 5 a.m., 5:30 a.m., 5:50 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 6:45 a.m., 7:10 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 7:50 a.m., 8:10 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 8:50 a.m., 9:10 a.m., and 9:30 a.m.  From 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., buses depart every 30 minutes.  Service is every hour on the hour between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.  Saturday and Sunday departures remain every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., and between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. service is every hour on the hour.

            Buses depart from LAX terminals Monday-Sunday every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., and between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. buses depart LAX every hour on the hour.

            FlyAway service at the other two locations, Van Nuys and Westwood, also saw strong increases in passenger counts.  Together, the three LAX FlyAway locations served 714,026 passengers during the first six months of 2008, or 23 percent more than the same period of 2007.  

            FlyAway fares for adults are $4 one-way and $2 one-way for children age 2-12.  Children under 2 years ride free.  Bus schedules and parking information for all FlyAway locations are available at www.lawa.org/flyaway.  LAX FlyAway bus operations are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
