AIRPORT CONDITIONS ALERT: Terminal 4 Law Enforcement Activity

2:45 PM -- Incident has been secured by law enforcement.  Items were empty cylinders.  Passengers are returning to terminals and vehicular traffic on Upper Level roadway is returning to normal.

2:15 PM --About 1:45 pm, a police officer was told by an unidentified airport employee that a man threw suspicious-looking items into a trash can located outside of the TSA passenger security screening area. A 300-foot perimeter was placed around the trash can, resulting in operations at security screening and all of American Airlines ticketing counters being temporarily closed. Passengers from those two areas have been moved outside to the curb.

Vehicular traffic on the Upper/Departures Level roadway has been reduced to one lane, with resulting traffic congestion. Lower/Arrivals Level roadway traffic is flowing smoothly.

Law enforcement responders, including LAPD Bomb Squad, are currently on scene and investigating. The owner of the suspicious items has not yet been found.

American Airlines is holding a number of out-bound flights at the gates, but no inbound flights are affected.
