CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING WORK NEAR LAX

( Los Angeles , California – July 7, 2008)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to Tron Construction, Inc., Hawthorne, for a portion of the Los Angeles International Airports (LAX) Residential Soundproofing Program.  The $918,790 contract covers sound insulation modifications on 54 dwelling units (seven single-family dwellings, one duplex, and 45 condominium units), all within the LAX noise-impacted area in the City of Los Angeles.

The overall LAX Residential Soundproofing Program includes approximately 9,400 residences in the Los Angeles communities of Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNL) of 65 decibels or higher.     Contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to achieve a desired noise level reduction.

The 54 dwelling units in this project will bring the number of units completed or under construction and approved by the Board to 6,122.  Since the inception of the program, 113 soundproofing construction contracts have been awarded by the Board for a total cumulative amount of $105,439,670.  The remaining 3,278 units are either in the design phase, awaiting commencement of design, or the owners have not responded or have declined to participate.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Group.  A community office at 8939 South Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Residents may call (310) 646-7444 for further information.
